Sean Carroll 是理論物理學家與哲學家，現任約翰霍普金斯大學 Homewood 自然哲學講座教授，同時在哲學系與物理暨天文學系任教，並擔任聖塔菲研究所（Santa Fe Institute）Fractal Faculty。他的研究橫跨量子力學、時空、宇宙學與統計力學，並長年主張：艾弗雷特（Everett）的「多世界」詮釋，其實只是認真看待方程式之後必然得到的結論。在《The Big Picture》中，他提出「詩意自然主義」（poetic naturalism）——世界只有一個自然的世界，卻可以在許多不同層次上被真實地描述，因此目的、意義與意識都可以是真實的，而不必外於物理。自 2018 年起他主持 Mindscape 播客，每週進行長篇對話，題材從黑洞、自由意志，一路談到機器是否可能有意識。他著有《From Eternity to Here》、《Something Deeply Hidden》，以及《The Biggest Ideas in the Universe》系列。

Carlo Rovelli
